Paul Donaghy is an MRC clinician scientist fellow at Newcastle University. He is a member of the specialist advisory committee of the UK Lewy Body Society and an associate editor for Alzheimer’s Research and Therapy. He was a coauthor of the first consensus guidelines for the diagnosis of prodromal dementia with Lewy Bodies in 2020 and led an ISTAART Lewy Body Dementias Professional Interest Area review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic criteria. His research aims to increase our understanding of the clinical and biomarker presentation of cognitive impairment in Lewy body disease and the contribution of co-pathology and neuroinflammation to disease pathophysiology and progression. He investigates these questions through clinical research cohorts using multimodal imaging and biofluid analysis. These studies are complemented with analysis of postmortem brain tissue to understand how clinical, imaging and biomarker findings relate to disease pathology.
